Spain coach Luis Guil is impressed by the talent he has available for the U16 European Championship. The Spaniards will take on Bulgaria, Latvia and Poland in Group C at the event that is being staged in Bar, Montenegro, from August 5-15. "This generation has a lot of talent in exterior play," Guil said. "I have been working for several years with the FEB and of all the generations that I have trained, this is the one that has the most exterior talent and also it has tall players, capable of doing many things. "Where we are a little bit down is on interior play because in general, they are short because we don't have players that are taller than two meters." Spain won the gold medal at the U16 European Championship in Lithuania last year. "To be European champions is difficult but it's the aim of any Spanish national team. "First we must compete and then try to get a medal. "It will be crucial to compete in all the games and that will determine whether or not we reach the podium." Guil knows exactly how he will want to play. "Considering we have a lack of height, we need to be very strong on defense in order to get rebounds and run in the counter-attack," he said. "We will choose a very high rhythm of play on offense." |
